How I have been earning my beers…

This is what I have to put up with on a daily basis. :)

I have been on a bit of a writing hiatus. Between work and workouts I have not had the time or motivation to get my thoughts organized. So, it is time to do a quick recap of the last little bit.

sun on the trails

I love the trails in the Spring!

Hitting the trails

With trail running season on us, I have been spending a lot of time running trails. And the weather we have been experiencing makes it an absolute pleasure to be out there.

Last year I was not as strong as I would like to have been on the uphills so I have been spending a lot of time climbing.

Gaining some elevation.

Gaining some elevation.

Hills, hills and more hills.

Luckily, living in British Columbia gives me lots of opportunities to climb. Interestingly, a lot of the trails lead to radio towers so of course they make for a nice “carrot to chase”.

Over the last 3-4 weeks I have visited at least 4 towers. I captured a few in photos, but it looks like I was more interested in the views. My 13 year old son has joined me on a few, and I can tell you there is nothing like running with a teenager to make you feel old :(.

Biking

I have also been commuting on the bike to work whenever I can. Normally I am a run first guy, but lately I have really been enjoying the lower impact workouts that biking presents. Maybe one day I will even take up swimming so I can do a triathlon.

Travel

Although I don’t talk about work much, it is still a big part of my life. For the first two weeks of May I had to do some travel for work conferences.

As we all know travel will mess with your schedule. I was able to keep things somewhat on track, but there is no doubt that there was a drop off from my normal workouts. Don’t even get me started on diet…

What’s next?

Well, I am still looking for that race that I want to focus on for the year. I have never left it so late in the year and to be honest it is kind of messing with me. I am in a precarious position where it might be too late for training for anything longer then a 50km.

As for the blog, expect to see me much more active again.
